You may have been wondering, "What's with all the pictures of Anna jumping?" Here's the thing: I recently discovered that jumping is possibly the only thing in the world I do more gracefully than Nick. He's a pretty good athlete, whereas I can't always manage to walk in a straight line without tripping over myself. For some reason, though, I totally school Nick when it comes to freeze-frame pictures of jumping. For example, check out this picture of me jumping in front of Mont Saint Michel:
OK, now look at some pictures of Nick:
The awesome thing is, they're ALL like that. So when we go someplace scenic, I usually suggest that we do some jumping pictures. And then we go and share a beer and laugh while we look at them. And then I spill the beer on Nick's lap.

Hey Anna - have you considered that perhaps Nick is just better at taking pictures of you jumping. ie, gets the tough timing right? Because it seems that in your pictures, he isn't even in the jump at all....
It's like the parable of the town with only two dentists....
But hey, if you need something to hold above him, and that something has to be jumping, I'm sure you can figure out a way to delete this comment.
Just a thought. And wanted to say hi.
Actually, I HAVE considered that. Maggie claimed that's why I won an earlier jumping picture contest. To level the playing field, we figured out how to set the camera to automatically take a whole bunch of shots in quick succession. I'm convinced that what you're looking at isn't the result of Nick's photographic skill. It's my AWESOME jumping. Holla!
Josh, your point has not gone unnoticed. As the subject of the photo, I, too, have raised this point to Anna several times. My argument against the "level playing field" that Anna claims exists are: (1) we take a lot more picture of her jumping than me ... like an order of magnitude more, so the probability of getting a well-timed picture of her is higher and(2) our jumps are different ... since the camera takes photos at equal, quick intervals. The photo evidence seems to suggest that the time I'm in the air matches the time between photos meaning that if the first shot is of me on the ground then the follow-up pictures are of me on the ground (in an admittedly awkward position). Anna, on the other hand, is, well, not in the air as long.
We have taken dozens of pictures of Nick, and they all look like the ones I posted. I look goofy in some pictures, but Nick ALWAYS looks goofy. I challenge anyone to take a picture of Nick jumping in which he does not appear to have lost control of his limbs.
Ha! What was I thinking...of course you've had that conversation. But still, nothing like starting a spicer v. utgoff banter from halfway across the world.
I do think Anna sucks at taking jumping pictures. I assume Nick can actually jump, and these pictures suggest otherwise.
Hi, I've been following (and thoroughly enjoying) your blog. I especially love the jumping pics! Anna, you must have taken gymnastics as a kid. You're so graceful in the air! Nick is absolutely adorable even though he looks like a goofball jumping! ;o) You'll have to make a "Jumping Through Europe" scrapbook when you return home! Happy Travels!
