meat pie

Now that I've been to Eastern Europe, though, I totally get it. Apparently, everywhere else in the world has amazing meat pies. They're nothing like Hot Pockets, or those gross chicken pot pies they served in my grade school cafeteria. Maggie's pictured here eating "burek," the Bosnian meat pie, which is kind of a twisted up spiral of sausage and flaky pastry deliciousness. How is it that the US hasn't developed its own national meat pie? As Sheldon writes,
"The love of meat pies... its what brings us together as a global community. It is the lack of meat pies here in the US that is at the heart of our unwillingness to join that global brotherhood."
So sad, and so true!

Mmm..burek is delicious! I agree, the west needs more meaty pies. Enjoy!
I so agree...it's the thing I miss most about my trip to Dubrovnik. Though I don't know if the US could handle the health ramifications, as fat as we are already.
Travelling sure is the way to change some points of view. Yours is a pleasant way of writing (guess you've got a grade or something). I've got a blog... in spanish. You are welcome anyway.
A meat pie and sauce is the quintessential Australian meal! Apparently we're introducing them to the US. Nice to come across your blog :)
Hey, cool blog. When you get to the US and travel to Nebraska check out the Runza chain they have there. I lived there for a couple years and their meat pies were pretty good for being fast food.

You might want to make a trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where pasties have been served since Finish immigrants settled here approx. 150 years ago. Pasties are mainly meat and rudibaga. There a vast number of establishments that serve this pie and with their own "secret" recipe. In some places you can even order a variety of ingredients like a veggen pie. I invite you to please come to the North Woods of Michigan's UP, enjoy all we have to offer.
Great posts...all of them. Its like traveling with you.
When you get back check in some stores where they sell cornish meat pasties and they are great with brown sauce

I had to laugh, I was going to leave a comment about pasties, which are absolutely awesome, but then I saw that homemakerkate beat me to it! She's right though, they are amazing. Great blog by the way!
Meat pies have been around in the south of the USA for a very long time now.
Sounds great! I'd like to taste some....
I'd second drewdogg01 - Runza, aka bierocks - are great little tasty treats. In the tiny town in Kansas where I went to high school bierocks were a big deal. I hadn't heard of them even when I lived only 2 hours away!
pie with sauce, us aussies live off of them lol.
pie with sauce = meat pie with ketchup ;-)
As a Brit living in the US, I do miss my meat pies. When the snack attack hits, you don't always want chips...
One day if given the chance I would like to ask Buddha if we are not to eat other animals, being that they too are sentiant beings, why the hell is meat soooo delicious !!
